ABOUT
AUI
Anchors Unlimited Science Fun, Inc. (AUI), a nonprofit
corporation registered in Michigan, USA, 1994 strives to promote
life science skills primarily, integrating math, when possible. Our mission is to motivate students to strive for academic excellence in math and science, apply concepts to daily life and consider pursuing careers in the health field or life science related work. We offer age-appropriate activities, traditionally for ages ranging from 7-15 online, at events and seasonal activities.
We have offered hands-on
programs since 1994 in Michigan and aim to expand our service. Anchors has been involved with the Ann Arbor Art Fair (nonprofit section) for eight years; participated in the Salem Flag Day, Ann Arbor Packard Clinic Health Fair, CFC Agency Fairs, Ann Arbor Schools Career Day, to name a few events we've been involved with.
In addition to our popular Halloween Science Fun Day (Historic Jarvis Stone School-149 one room school), we've offered free math & science tutoring at the Dearborn and Ypsilanti Public Libraries (free), Free Summer Science Camp at Concordia University (Ann Arbor), Science Fun Day (Washtenaw Community College) and Friday Evening at the Gardens (University of MI Botanical Gardens).
We strive to promote
science to those who like to explore, investigate, be challenged and
want to get involved in a dynamic field. Our focus is
for those are old enough to read through middle school age. At our sessions, we have had special needs, gifted, bilingual, home school and traditional students participate. While we have used a variety of sites, we do not affiliate with any specific population and nearly all socioeconomic populations have been served.
We realize that most students and learners don't fall precisely
in an exact grade and encourage visitors to glance at areas of
interest on our various links. In addition to content for high
school age and above, we welcome high school, college age individuals and adults to consider volunteering to help us expand and offer suggestions
for our seasonal updates.
It has been exciting for me to follow the paths of the regular participants, who came to events in the 90s. Now, as of this update, all are in fact pursuing science-related careers (one will be entering medical school and another nursing, to name a few). We have also had reports of increases in MEAP scores and top science fair awards from former participants, all of which fulfills the original mission more than a decade ago. We have moved primarily to offering summer hands-on activities and the rest of our time is spent online and consulting.
We are in the process of developing an online school and marketing hands-on services for meeting breaks and conferences.
While to strive to be fair with our
contests, please know that it IS like a game and regretfully not
everyone will win, just because work is submitted. Feel free to make
as many submissions as you'd like. Because we have no paid staff, and operate on an extremely low budget, keep an open
mind. Understand that we are not funded by the government, any educational institution, foundation or charity. While we have received funding from the Combined Federal Campaign and private donors over the years, our budget does not include spending on fundraising. We appreciate your donation.
Thanks for your visit and stop by often!
