Spring is HERE! Join our essay contest and insects hunting activities! There may be special surprises waiting for you!


Write an essay: "What Moves" 

1st prize $5, 2nd prize $3 3rd prize $2, must have a Paypal account to receive prize money.

Find a place to study. Visit that exact place for 14 days. Sit there for a minimum of 10 minutes. Write notes about what you see, hear, feel, and smell. Record anything that you see that moves. Draw a sketch of the session for at least 2 days. Submit a summary and graphic of your 2 week experience. Your summary can include your daily observations or a narrative about why you selected that location; overall ideas of the experience and anything significant that you noticed.

If you have the capability to scan your graphic or a photo of the spot (or have a digital camera), send it as an attachment. Otherwise, send your work to Anchors Activity #1; PO Box 130364, Ann Arbor, MI 481113. Deadline June 30 (or when completed). First, second and third place winning work will be posted on the site.

Bugs!

Deadline July 5 (or when completed)
Select 2 bugs of your choice. One should be available to see in your area. The second bug should be one that you do NOT have in your area. Determine if each of these are good bugs or bad bugs. A good bug would be one that is generally beneficial to man, crops, etc. A bad bug is poisonous, dangerous or damages plants. Observe the one you see and write what you find interesting, unique features and why you chose it. Research the other and tell what you learned about the second bug. Draw a picture or take a picture of one or both bugs.

Plagiarizing and copying other peoples work is strictly prohibited. If we learn that this has been done, future participation in contests will be denied. BE HONEST! Stretch your mind and have fun! Deadlines must show postmarks on or before noted date or show email date. There must be a minimum of 20 submissions from different people for prize money to be awarded. Essays must not be longer than 500 words. Contest is may be canceled for any reason at any time.
